Teeth grinding and jaw tension

Clenching that aches by morning and widens the jaw.

What's going on

Grinding and clenching — often worse at night or under stress — overworks the masseter muscles. The consequences are aching, worn teeth, tension headaches, and over years a visibly wider, squarer jaw.

Treating the muscle is well-established medicine: relaxing the masseter reduces the force of clenching, eases the ache, and as a side effect slims the lower face over the following months.

Why it happens

  • Stress-driven clenching, often nocturnal
  • Bite and jaw mechanics
  • Habit and posture
  • Sometimes unidentified — many people do not know they grind

What can realistically be done

Masseter treatment

Relaxes the overworked muscle, easing pain and gradually slimming the jaw. Prescribed after assessment.

Dental pathway

Where tooth wear is significant, we recommend a dentist or splint alongside — the medical centre makes this easy.

What can't

This treats the muscle, not the cause of the stress — and jaw slimming is a side effect, not the point. Splints and dental care still matter where teeth are wearing.

What a first visit involves

Thirty to forty-five minutes with a doctor or nurse: your history, an assessment, and an honest plan with costs in writing. No treatment at a first visit. What to expect
