Female hair thinning
Thinning at the part line and crown — common, treatable, rarely discussed.
What's going on
Female thinning is diffuse — a widening part, a smaller ponytail, more scalp visible in bright light. It affects a large share of women over forty and is heavily under-discussed, which makes it feel isolating. It is not rare, and it is not vain to care about it.
The causes differ from men's — hormonal change (especially perimenopause and post-partum), iron, thyroid, stress — and many are very treatable once found. Diagnosis is everything here.
Why it happens
- Hormonal change — perimenopause, post-partum
- Iron and thyroid — checked with simple blood tests
- Stress and illness shedding
- Female pattern loss, which is genetic
What can realistically be done
Doctor-led workup
History, examination and blood tests to find the actual driver.
Treatment of the cause
Many causes are correctable — within the medical centre, not a product aisle.
Regenerative scalp treatment and needling
Support density where follicles are miniaturising.
What can't
A full reversal is not always possible, and we will not promise one. But most women who come in early leave with a plan that measurably helps — and all leave knowing why it is happening.
Who to see
What a first visit involves
Thirty to forty-five minutes with a doctor or nurse: your history, an assessment, and an honest plan with costs in writing. No treatment at a first visit. What to expect
